The 30-Day Summer Thanks Challenge

30 Day Summer Thanks Challenge

Don't wait till Thanksgiving to give thanks

June 21 was summer solstice. Whenever the calendar flips to a new season, I reflect on how my business and career has been progressing. Specifically, I think about the people who have helped me along the way. We don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving to be thankful, why not do it in the summer?

Summer 30-day thanks challenge

My 30-day challenge is not hard to achieve, but it will take discipline to get the work done. I promise you will see surprising rewards as a result of following these simple steps.

Use your digital or analog calendar to block 15 minutes per workday for 30 days. Use those 15 minutes to send someone a thank-you email or mail them a card. These recipients don’t have to be someone you have done business with this year. They could be someone from your past like a school teacher, childhood friend or someone you have worked with.

Review your calendar to see each person you met with over the past year. These might have been work meetings, drinks with colleagues or no-agenda coffees. If you enjoyed your time with the person, reach out to say thank you.

Open your email sent folder to see who you have emailed. You will likely find recipients who you should check back in with. I expect you will discover a group of ideal candidates to receive a card or email expressing your gratefulness.

Now, grab your phone and review the text messages you have sent and received. I also recommend scanning your Facebook messages, LinkedIn messages and direct messages on Twitter. I am confident you will quickly be able to create a list of 30 people who deserve a note of thanks.

Your thankfulness is going to warm hearts and put smiles on the faces of each recipient. This kindness will return to you in unexpected ways. Taking the time to be thankful will also make you realize how good your life is. The world needs more kindness and you will be doing your part to deliver it.

Thirty days. One message or card per weekday. Make the list of 30 people from following the steps above to get started. Are you ready?

Summertime gives us more light in a day to stop and reflect on who has helped us along the way. As author Charles Bowden wrote, “Summertime is always the best of what might be."

I put Dave Delaney's approach to the test in selecting and attending a conference less than 2 weeks ago, and I landed a new client. Now that's an amazing ROI! Thanks Dave!" - Lesley Antoun.
